I seem to remember reading somewhere that the one you've linked to has something to do with the notorious A series spares, but I could be wrong.

You're absolutely correct, it's the machine shop offshoot of MCCS Engineering which is run by the son of A-Series Spares Ltd.

So worth a shot? Not far off the price to refurb.

I have used Southern Rebore Services down near Uckfield (not too far from you)01825 733659I found them helpful, good and did a quick turn around.I have also used Bensham Engineering in Croydon and found them to be good. Both have plenty of A Series experience.

Good shout. I have used CCK historic a few times for tune and Dyno work

MCCS? Err, you might want to read this first https://www.theminif...-series-spares/ or this https://www.theminif...e-engine-units/

SMMC, all day, every day. Old school machine shop for anything A Series. Very recommended.

SMMC - Southam Mini and Metro Centre

May be out of your way...but have used before and fantastic work and would use again in the future if required.

I have used Bensham Engineering in Croydon a lot in the 80s and 90s, and found them excellent for my race engines, boring skimming etc, even welding up diffs for me when doing PROD A mini grass tracking, though no doubt their personnel has changed over the years. I used a guy there called Andy mainly

It looks like bensham dissolved in 2020

Thats a shame, but a lot of engineering shops have gone to the wall. i am no expert at all on Fords, I am told you cannot even get shells or re grind a crank for Mondeos etc

I usually do my own heads, but if I get busy I'll send them out to my trusted machine shop.

I had them do a head about a year back - Chemical Clean, Crack Test, R & R Valve Guides, Fit hardened Exhaust Seats, Hone the new Guides, Clean up the Deck, Cut the Seats and remove 2 x broken Studs. That was $420 AUD which is about 220 GBP. I supplied all parts.

My last one was close to $1000 AUD but they supplied all parts and did everything. It probably didn't help that I needed it done quickly so they did it in about a week.

I just had some head work done and the price was £100 for valve seats recut and a 40thou skim.

I bought the guides and reamer for £25 and fitted and reamed them myself to keep costs down.

Depending on the condition of your valves you could reuse them if the stems are still within tolerance and not heavily pitted.

To put it into perspective the local engine builder to me does a cylinder head refurb service for £150

Hi all

I've decided to buy a fully built head for £425(link from my posts)
I did google the company and found quite a few positive reviews on some A series based forums

Thank you all for your support

My first one

The only place that no one recommended and you were given links to posts about their previous shenanigans. Good luck.
