Hi,

Replacing the suspension cones, shocks, hilos on my 94 spi - first time doing one.  Ive gotten the top suspension arm out, and cleaned it up, but I can only see ONE of the rubber seals - #24 in the below image from Minisport.  The other end of my arm doesnt have a seal.

Ive hunted high and low in case Ive misplaced one while dismatling, but no joy - can only find the one seal.

The diagram from minisport seems to show that there is only 1 rubber seal fitted to the arm (#24) there doesnt seem to be one down near #26 where I think it should be.  Also the "rebuild kit" from minispares - MSK001

 - show there are 2 in the kit.

Can anyone advise which is correct - should there be one seal one end, two seals one on each end.  Im thinking there should be one at each end and that parts diagram is not correct.

thanks.

2 required for each top arm, and each radius arm. 8 per car total

Go for a drive, come back. Go for another drive, come back. Then look under the car. It'll be there ;D

Perhaps the last person to do your suspension, looked at the Minisport drawing, thought that Minispares had inadvertently put two in the "Re-build kit", and just fitted the one.

If someone replaced them, it probably split and then perhaps it managed to fall off.

With the shockingly terrible level of quality on just about all rubber parts I have bought over the last decade+. The above could be VERY true. It's shocking how poor most new parts are. I have replaced lots of rubber, just to be safe, and in some cases, have had to revert back to the original part from 1994 which is still in much better conditions. Wild

What a total and utter ball-ache it is to remove / refit the upper suspension arm on an SPi.  The videos (all ive seen have been non spi cars) make it look easy - but because of the rad, hard brake lines and other stuff in the engine bay just getting the thrust plate nuts off/on is near on impossible.,   Then trying to refit the arm when you have no space to slide the pin through straight, while trying to hold/wiggle the plate, get the fat thrust washer in the hole, trying to keep the rubber seal on, holding the hi-lo in place and twisting the arm into place trying to line it all up is a total nightmare.

Please remember, that in the factory, the suspension was assembled on the subframe, and then the body was lowered on to it.

Hi,

I cannot find it but there is a post on the forum complaining about the poor standard of these seals and someone suggested an alternative.

I think it was using something totally different like a hose of a suitable size and cutting the seals from that.

Paddy
