I have removed the rear subframe - i have snapped the thread off one corner...  what are my options?
I am good with a welder.. Do i cut the box section out and weld a new full bolt or drill the broken thread out?

this has probably been asked so many times but i'm new to the mini scene.

If you find a rotten frame with a good pin they’re easy enough to cut out and replace. I think the last one I did took an hour.

There’s normally just a few stitch welds around the flange that the bush backs onto and another couple between the skid and the rear crossmember.

I have seen people drill and tap the remaining shank to use a bolt but you’ve got drop down a thread size to have any meat around it and I don’t really like that.

It is good that you are good with a welder.  Do you have, and are you good with an anglegrinder ?

Faced with your problem, I have:-

1)  Bevelled the head of a Hex set-screw.

2)  Cut the depth of the hex head off the pin and bevelled the pin.

3)  Welded the set-screw to the pin.

4)   Rounded off the hex corners of the set-screw, flush with the pin.

I'm not particularly good with a welder, so butt-welding a thread onto the end of the pin would give me a dubiously reliable outcome.

So my approach would have to be instead something that made the welding job easy.

With my level of skill-less-ness I'd take one of two approaches:

(1) Replace the pin completely. Or...

(2) I'd drill into the end of the pin the full dia of the thread, saw off an appropriate length of a shanked bolt, drill thru the side of the pin, press in the new bolt and puddle-weld into the side-hole(s) to fasten it.

I was thinking the same except thread the hole and turn the stud in, then plug it from the sides

I haven't ever done that myself though so purely theory not experience

I have a scrap subframe in next week if you need an off cut to weld on to your subframe?

Let me know and I can be extra carefull taking it off...
