Hi all, I'm sure it's been asked many times but how do you fit your exhaust to the standard 3 into 1 cast iron manifold, no matter how tight I turn it, it keeps coming back with some blowout? I'm using the original cast iron clams too, not the Mini Sport pressed clamps.

Are you using any sealant, like Gun Gum? Are to tightening both bolts a bit at a time alternately? Will the clamp be better one way up than the other (the exhaust side may have a smaller diameter)? Is there still a little gap between both halves?- if there isn't the clamp's at least partly clamping itself instead

Sometimes it also helps to use something like a small trolley jack from below to hold the exhaust down pipe up and 'gently' ensure it is in close contact with the cast iron manifold before fitting and tightening up the clamp.

Hi,

I had the same problem even when using a sealant like Gun Gum.

Having removed the exhaust and examined the inboard end I noticed that there was a short section of pipe with flange inside, the flange overlapping the flange of the main exhaust pipe.

I removed this short section of pipe and the fit onto the exhaust manifold was vastly improved. I also sanded the flare on the manifold to make sure it was perfectly smooth all round.

I do still use Gun Gum as an extra precaution.

I have had no blow outs from there since.

I cannot  remember where I got the exhaust from, I am sure it is not the original one.

Check that the two halves of the clamp match up, you may need to flip one side.
