Hi. I'm currently cleaning my mini spi engine bay and I removed this from next to the engine.

What is it called? I can't find it in mini spares no matter how hard I look for it. Also, the inside of it is full of grease.

Can I clean it with a cleaner like WD40?

I found it. This is it. I don't know if I can wash it inside or if I should buy a new one.

I cut mine open and found this solid mass of corroded steel mesh and gunk

I used a stainless steel pan scrubber and held it back together with a rubber strip and a Mikalor clamp

Brake cleaner works as well. Fill, block openings with hand or something and shake. Dump and repeat till cleaner. Blow some low pressure air in there, being careful where the open end is pointing, of course!

Thanks for the advice. I've just filled the flange with gasoline and let it soak.

As expected, it's full of tar. Your iron scrub maintenance idea is great.

I will try washing it several times as per your suggestion.

You do not need to cut them open to get the filter mesh out, they are held 8n by a spring which can be carefully wound out from the base end with long nose pliers. Take your time so as not to ruin the spring. Then you can replace the filter with a stainless steel scoureror similar.
