I've been with Peter Best insurance for a few years now and always wondered if the included breakdown cover was any good. 

 

Following a breakdown the other day I called Hiscox breakdown which was what came with the policy.  They were straightforward on the phone.  They had an AA van out to me within the hour and the bloke was really good - got the A frame trailer out and had me towed home in no time.  

 

I probably got lucky with the quick response as that could vary a lot at different times and places.  I was expecting a local recovery firm with a tow truck rather than an AA patrol.  He even tried to work out what the problem was but wasn't able to. 

 

It's the first time I've had to use a recovery service for a long time and it's good to be able to report a positive result as there are so many negative reviews about these experiences.

On my GT I have always had separate breakdown cover using the RAC, I have called them out once about 18 months ago over a bank holiday and it took them 14 hours to turn up, and then another 4 hours to change the radiator (which I had already purchased),

 

Last year I took insurance out on my other mini through Adrian Flux and included breakdown cover, when I called them out the recovery vehicle was with me in approximately 30 minutes, the guy said he had little knowledge of older cars and suggested the car was recovered, he said that he couldn't take the car as the breakdown company use a different provider for all recoveries, I told him to wait why I spoke to the recovery company who after a long discussion eventually agreed that he could recover the vehicle to my home..
