And that’s exactly why the roads are in such a state, the combination of those harder tyres and the extraordinary weight of ev’s is destroying the roads faster than ever. The roads are in a much worse state since ev’s became widespread.  ;D

I have driven lots of new small vans over my working life and have never experienced 50 to 60K tyre life. The first tyres seemed to last 20 K and subsequent same brand tyres lasted 10 to12 K.Questions would have been asked about driving style if individuals wore tyres three times faster than "guaranteed".Just call me a skeptic,Steve..

Certainly a couple of years ago the sales figures showed that the trend for (ICE) SUVs had outweighed the emissions gains of EVs, and I don’t doubt that SUVs use more rubber than traditional sized cars, it’s certainly a complex situation.

My EV is now on its third full set of tyres, each set lasting 40,000 miles (it’s done 100k miles now) so no complaints about tyre wear even with 450 bhp available when fully charged.

Correlation ≠ causation.

At the same time EVs have increased in number we’ve neglected our road network and are seeing more extreme weather patterns (I’d say the former is the bigger issue for the roads).

And an anecdotal point, we’ve also got more delivery vans running around today than 5-10years ago, all/most of which are far heavier (and generally driven far more aggressively) than any passenger car.

Which are half the size of the LWB/HT sprinters they use. More anecdotes, but where I am 90%+ of the vans aren’t electric.

Untrue.

Perhaps it is a issue of lack of maintenance? or quality materials & contracting provided by the lowest bidder?
It is possible that some things are completely  unrelated to EVs... no? (Not every spilled cup has an EV to blame for its demise...)

In California - where it seems that every other car is an EV - and the rest are 6000 pound pick-up trucks and SUV obscenely used as grocery-getters and teenie-bopper transport to the mall; the roads seem to be doing just as well -or as bad as in the past.

- The roads near me have no electric vehicle traffic whatsoever - and they are atrocious.

Has anyone noticed that roads where the asphalt was installed 50 years ago seem to be doing significantly better than those that are re-surfaced every 5 years?
