I saw this mini at check point Charlie many years ago. It was quite well done. You could see the suitably 'large' volume in the seat space. The guards would easily ignore an "empty" passenger seat, and if suspicious, they would want to check the boot. Hiding in plain view...

 

If I recall, this mini shuttled more than a handful of people out of East Germany.
