How tight should the channels be on the bottom of the glass on Mk3-on wind up windows?

My originals had completely rotten away so I’ve bought new items from Minispares together with new rubbers. None of the new channels will grip the bottom of the glass, one won’t stay in place at all, two fall off with a decent shake of the glass, the only one that grips in any way is one that was supplied faulty and has a dent in the channel!

So what am I missing?

I found they were really loose on mine so I put the rubber in the channel and crimped them together then fit the glass until it grips it tight enough job done. It might take a couple of goes to get it tight enough.

Hi,

I had the opposite. I had to use a cold chisel to widen the channel so that the glass and rubber would fit. No way could I get them to fit without opening the channel about 1mm.

Pretty much what I had to do, another one of those excellent replacement parts.

Thanks all, I’ll start crimping! More frustratingly poor parts … it’s not as if the window glass has varied in thickness.

I was fortunate that mine were in good condition. I would go the crimping route and a good splodge of silicone sealant to hold it better. Belts and braces spring to mind

I couldn't even get mine on, even with lots of hammering with a rubber hammer so opened them up slightly until fitted ok - seemed to be on there tight  enough until winding down the window resulted in them pulling off.    Managed to sort it by squeezing it together with a bench vice whilst fitted to the window.
