Somebody on ebay , is asking £500-00 for a bored out 1380 block.

It is described as "early a series block", but it doesn't have access to the cam followers and is painted chinese red, not BMC green.

Probably worth £75-00, top whack, by the time it has been sleeved.

I noticed a lot of time on there that people will list items at silly money with 'rare' or 'no longer available' or what not when in reality you can still buy 90% of things brand new cheaper. I realise some new items quality can be an issue but some sellers also try their luck with a load of old junk.

I agree completely with what you say about pricing of second hand parts and everything is listed as Cooper even if it only brake peddle rubbers!

One thing though it was only the Cooper S blocks that had tappet chest covers all the more mundane engines fitted to the 1300 range of cars didn't have them.

Pre A+ blocks do tend to fetch more money than A+ versions, especially if they're the version without the casting hole above the centre main bearing- as they're eligible for historic racing. But, if it's already bored to 73.5 or larger it's possibly not able to be linered.
I was told by MED that my old 1380 block couldn't be sleeved. MED was going to sleeve a block bored to either 73.5 or 74mm for project 63 and I was intrigued as to how they were going to do it as I'd previously been told by them it couldn't be done. They ended up replacing the block.

Prices are steadily going up as things become more and more scarce, but plenty of sellers need a reminder that Covid is over, and we are in recession.

Even parts I consider reasonably priced are not selling over here.

That's good to know for the future AC, you're the first person I've heard of that can actually do it. I was beginning to think that my two old blocks with damaged bores that are at 73.5mm were scrap.
