OK folks. Let me see what you all think.

I have a mini 35 almond green special edition needing a set of wheels refurbished.

Obviously I do like an original car and would like them back to original spec etc.

But sometimes moving with technology can make things better/easier.

So with that in mind I am considering.

Options
1. Have the wheels powder coated but have to stick to one colour. Black or silver. Not to original spec.

Example here..

2. Sand sand and sand the wheels to get them painted back to original. But I also know that getting the original finish can be tough. I know about the special foams and techniques of folding the foams over, etc for a seamless blended in finish but labour intensive for the original look.

Should I just move with the times and powder coat one colour or is there something I am missing about powder coating two colours?

Cheers folks.

Speak to a wheel refinisher, it shouldn’t be an issue having them done as original. The longevity of the clear lacquered edge section is likely an issue but you can discuss this with them.
Unfortunately refinishing is a similar cost to buying a cheap set of after-market wheels but if you want originality, certainly the 35LE is a lovely model, it’s the way to go.

In my opinion you have to have them done properly as original, they are a real stand out feature of a rather lovely limited edition Mini. If they are done properly the finish will probably be more resilient than the original finish anyway. I flat single colour (in either paint or powder coat) would spoil the look of the car.

Well that is that then.. Sand, sand, sand..

Rub my finger prints off.

One of these things, the more prep work now the better and longer lasting the finish in the long run.

Thanks folks. Original it is then..

Almond green is one of the great mini colous!

I recall seeing a 'new' 1998 or so sportpack mini as I searched for my Anthracite & silver color combination in 2000.

Green Leather interior, wood dash, and this one had the sliding ragtop. A collector has boight it, but was willing to sell.it at the time.

I was tempted.more than once...
