Hi

I have recently fitted a Reece fish carburettor and just checking what the best solution for the breather system would be? Last carburettor set up was twin HS2 connected to the carbs. The Reece fish doesn't have any connections for breather set up. Cheers (I do have a small K&N type filter if needed)

drill and tap the manifold?  or a spacer plate with a vacuum takeoff, if there's room

I might add a connector to the rocker cover? It has a vented oil cap

If you want a direct PCV type breather like beffore it needs to enter the carb before the throttle butterfly which looks difficult within the body of the carb - inside an air cleaner is a possibility as it will provide some vacuum to suck fumes from the engine.

If you want to drill and tap the manifold you will need a cooper S type CCV valve on it to regulate the vacuum in the crankcase and possibly a sealed oil filler cap?.

Alternatively just vent to a catch can like the racers do.  I thought the Reece Fish was for racing anyway, though the picture which was posted on Retro-Rides shows a manifold with what look like flat areas for both CCV and brake booster ports to be drilled

I should be ok with a connector on the rocker cover?

surely the rocker cover (or block vent points etc) is where it gets sucked out of, what you need is somewhere for it to be sucked into

unless I've misunderstood what you're asking

Hi yeah sorry. It looks like I might have to tap into the manifold near the servo connection. I thought as the oil cap is vented this would be ok. I did check the forum for answers but so many different view on the breather system.

If you tap into the manifold itself you'll need a 13H5191 emissions control valve to regulate the vacuum, as fitted to the cooper S and many other engines with breathers to the manifold.  Where you connect from the engine depends on which breather ports it has.

Yeah I used to have one and sold it lol. I'm sure I could use an inline pcv?(If used to T off from the Servo connection and )not one of those types...

The options are:

Have open breathers from the rocker cover and any other breathers (tappet cover/flywheel housing/timing cover). Cheap and easy but can be smelly

Join the breathers into the air filter housing

Use a PCV into the intake manifold. Your local parts shop should sell a generic PCV, it doesn't have to be a mini one.

Ok cheers. Yeah found a way-

I will tee into the inlet manifold (brake servo banjo) using a generic PCV.
