Hi all,

I was hoping someone might give some insight into my bulkhead crossmember bracket that attaches to the inner wing. Mine seems to be relatively smaller, different angle and less holes to it than the new heritage replacement panel. Maybe mine is original but was hoping someone could shed some light on it.

For context, my car is a 1972 Morris mini.

Have a look at the ones on offer from M-Machine or Magnum. They tend to be able to supply year correct panels whereas most heritage panels I've used are for 90's minis and need retro modifying.

Mini-Machine usually do the correct panels below for earlier Minis, give them a call to confirm which one is same as your '72 Mini:-

Is your car a roundnose or clubman?

Thats a roundnose but never seen a crossmember bracket like that. Although i have not had a lot of dealings with roundnoses of that era but the picture mab01uk has posted does look like the same item.

Now my question here is why are you replacing it?? from the picture it looks ok. If you want to remove it then carefully drill out the spot welds, carry out any repairs to it that may be needed and then reuse it (my favoured approach) plus with it off you can have a real good look at the end of the crossmember to see if there is any hidden corrosion. (there will be)

1971 850 here  without holes

I don't have any idea why is your bracket so different  O_O  It should be connect to the upper flange of the wing.

Thanks all for the replies.

Yes it is a roundnose mini. I'm starting to put the new inner wing on and realized from other pictures, that bracket should connect to the upper flange on the inner wing and mine doesn't. So was wondering whether this is original or its been replaced in the past with non-genuine or something alike.

Want this car to try and be as original to the date it came from factory as possible.

I just had a new bracket laying around and noticed the difference. Wasn't looking at replacing.

They're clubman reinforcing brackets. Looks like a car that started life as a clubman and has had the front end replaced with standard mini inner/ outer wings, front panel and bonnet. Looks like the speedo hole has a clubman blanking plate as well.

Mmm i wonder if someone has done the dirty at one point and converted from roundnose to Clubby. And i should have seen they were clubby gussets as well O_O  O_O

Thanks all for the replies. Maybe the car did start life as a clubman....

I think I will keep it a roundnose. So off with the brackets!!!
