It's a Russian sticker to show that the car is running studded tyres apparently

yes i thought it was Bulgarian so i messaged my mate and he said its Russian, i was surprised as the car started off in Bulgaria.

it started to rain today, but i decided to brave it
welded a spare wheel floor into the side of the boot
with that in i could place teh quarter on and then try to fit the inner arch
i think there is some rust in the back panel so that is why i havnt got and welded anything to it as of yet, will try to get the quarter so it fits then do that.

finished off welding the inner arch in, i need to put the door and quarter on to make sure it lines up
started to clean up the panel under the rear window and found some grot, not sure what to do, i could try to fix it all, or i could fiberglass it. Reason for fibreglass is it will never look right i think if i try to make a panel with out a stretcher/shrinker machine, and its not structural. Have to decide

not been out to the car for a while, not since its been cold and my leg has got a bit better. It was nice to se the red lead paint has held up really well, and the car is almost as it was a few weeks ago. I decided to look at quarter alignment in relation to the doors. So i oput the doors on and it all seemed ok, i never took any pics of that.
I decided to just go for it ont he rear panel under the rear window. so i took the grinder and started
Not perfect, but its not rot! so ill fibre over that and go from there.

started to clean up the rear panel, tried to make a little patch for the bottom of it but i think id be better fitting a new panel. problem is they dont do the 2103 one, the nearest is the 2106 one, back lights different, and no reversing light. So will have to order one and graft my bits onto it.
small scuttle repair
this pipe vents water into the bulkhead, i dont know if it was bent like that from new or later on, but it dosnt work!
i managed to get a set of seats for it too, they are from a 2104 slightly different material, but i can use them and set upt eh seat mount etc now
£50 well worth it.

fitted a heater into the garage, its quite noisey but works well for quick heat up
engine block is back with new big ends, mains, polished crank, new pistons, and rings, all built up
next will be the head, not sure what to do with it exactly as of yet, standard or add some porting etc. It is a standard 1600 type had
cleaned up the sump and found a few rust holes in it
i probably will make it larger capacity anyway, and that is where id be cutting it, so not the end of the world
cleaned the rocker cover too

like the above I'm enjoying this as well, good to see something else being saved. I take my hat off to you for the amount of hard work going in to this build

thankyou!! hopefully i wont loose interest, i want it done so i can goto car shows in it. I cant always rely on my brother to take me, so and in the summer it is nice just to go for a cruse .
I thought on saturday i would not get to to do the lada as my bmw e61, they key is playing up. in the past its been teh diversity antenna in the tailgate spoiler, so i took it out and found this!
Corrosion, but fortunately some amtec 559 flux, some hot air and some solder touching up sorted it in no time! Must have lost about an hour to this.
I was not in the mood really for welding, so i decided to strip the paint off the roof with the rust and treat it
That took most of the rest of the day. ill have to red lead it this weekend to be sure itll be ok. But that is a major job done.

not much of an update but ive not been well, i had a stomach upset etc etc.. you know what i mean! it was over 7 days, think it was food poisoning.
so, i bought some wheels for the car, they are fiat 500 wheels, reason is, the ones on it where getting damaged, and they are worth too much.
I stripped the rest of the roof, and rust proofed. then i painted with red oxide
today i started to set the doors up so i could start to align everything on the drivers side. I tried the wing, it was completely wrong, dosnt fit at all. kinda gutted as i dont know what to do, where to get a better one from. will have to ask about with my mates
Posted 09 March 2025 - 08:43 PM
so i was a bit confused over the wing issue still, so i did wonder if the doors where in the wrong place or something, so i started to fit the rear quarter too..
all of a sudden it looks like a car again even if its only tec screwed together! The wing was bad still anyway, and it had split along the front, it must be a weak spot
i cut it with a grinder as i will reweld it, want it to penetrate, but it will give me more playing room with it too.
I did some cuts at the top to make it a little better and it seemed to fit a lot nicer then
its still not right and i am thinking of buying another wing from Ladapower, this may just be a bad one.
rear quarter looks ok, will need a fair bit of work to get it right, as in the inner arch, the part where the door locks onto that panel is being renewed, its all kinda new stuff that needs to be made to fit...
but still, its getting closer...

went out today again, wasnt sure what to do on the car, everything seems to need to align up against everything else! But i thought, id have a go at the rear door slap part. It wasnt so easy, its the wrong shape of cause! also the holes in the wrong place for the striker park. Messed about with it, then welded it on, and found a big hammer and chisel to knock it into place !
rear quarter seems to fit reasonably well considering its non genuine. so i have a place now i can concentrate on, that being the rear quarter. maybe itll be welded on next time out there !

not much of an update, but i stripped the paint from the rear panel and worked out what i need to cut from it to repair it. its only the bottom that is rotten, so ill cut it just below the bumper mount line and graft the new one in. the new one is a 2106 one, its different above this line.
