Hey there,

This topic is probably somewhere but I haven't found it.

I have a MY 2000 Rover Mini Cooper 1.3 MPI, she operates nearly perfectly except for when starting.

I have to push the throttle in just slightly to get her started or she just feels like she stalls, once started she idles beautifully, drives as well as a car of her age can do and sits in traffic as well as any other car. Just starting her has this odd quirk.

I'm new to classic Mini ownership, and don't have any garages in my local area which know a lot about the cars.

If this is a known issue with simple fix then just let me know, because I'm worried its a underlying issue and im hurting the engine and it makes me look like a nob when she revs upon starting

Apart from this I'm loving the little Mini, people adore her and she's a thrill to drive.

How old is the air filter in the car? I'd replace this as first step as not pricey (less than £10) or tricky to do and could need doing anyway.

Seen similar to this on a thread where it was cured by person putting in new air filter (he thought old was blocked despite appearing ok at first) and also adjusting the idle to be a bit faster by turning torx screw on throttle body he said.

I'd give the throttle body/cable a good check over to make sure it isn't snagged somewhere, operates freely and isn't loose.

I usually blip the throttle on my spi to get it started. Never really thought about it. If it idles and runs ok I'd let sleeping dogs lie.
