About to do a long-overdue fuel filter renewal, and figured I may as well replace the pipes on either side of the filter as they're a) starting to corrode and b) probably rusted fast...

The car is a late SPI, so the spare filter I have is the earlier GFE7059 one, and consequently will presumably need the WKB10018 pipe to go from filter to engine feed. But the pipe from tank to filter (WJP10209) doesn't seem to be available any more, at least not easily.

As far as I've been able to work out the only difference is the adapter on the earlier filter. So can I use the later replacement pipe (WJP105860) with an adapter from somewhere, or do I need to get the later filter as well? (I assume the filters are interchangeable between SPI and MPI, fittings aside?)

Feel free to correct me if I've said anything daft, but hopefully an easy thing to clarify!

I believe you can use this adapter: https://minispares.c...|Back to search

It's been a little bit since I replaced this, and I remember I bought both filters because I wasn't sure.

I managed to pick up some decent used pipes which I refurbished. I looked at the Minispares pipes and couldn’t work out how that was a direct replacement for what I had, both solid pipes exiting my filter are connected to the flexi lines by ordinary hose clips not a crimped connection and all was original. You can however fit either filter, it’s only the connection sizes that differ, one needs the adapter, one doesn’t.

On refurbishing the fuel system on my '97 MPI I moved to the 98MY system/tank pipe/filter, removing the need for the adapter.

As part of this refurb I replaced the feed line from the filter with one with a crimped rubber hose (WKB10018L) which connects to the underfloor pipe feeding forward. I have discovered recently that the hose split at the hose bend and my (mostly empty) tank was pumped onto the floor. The part is approx. 5 years old.

Perhaps the bend in the rubber hose was too sharp, or lesser quality hose? Possibly bend too sharp, however the length of fitted hose limited the fitting arrangements. I will be cutting off the crimped hose off and replacing it with a longer hose - in summary I recommend using the plain metal pipe (WKB10018) with additional hose cut to correct length avoiding sharp bends.

Cheers all. Ordered the pipes and adapter from Somerford. Will see how it all fits together (or doesn't) next week.
