My Mini 1000 HL has a flat rear tyre. The car has original wheels so i think they are 145/80r10 tyres.

I'm torn between putting an inner tube in, getting it sealed to the rim or just getting new tyres.

Would 165/70 tyres require arches?

Looking at the prices i guess it's a toss up between the 145/80 Falken Sincera SN 807 and the Yokohama GT Special Classic Y350 tyre. Which of these do you use on your Mini and why?

3.5" rims need 145 tyres but 4.5" can use 165`s.

The Falken SN807 has to be one of the worst tyres I have used so if the budget allows I would go for the Blockley 145/80R10 tyres as they are really good with a money back guarantee, if not the Marshal 145`s are less lethal in the wet than the Falkens.

I haven`t personally tried the Yoko`s but they should be good but the Blockleys are great and cheaper.

In that case i could try the A032R. How do they compare to the A008 ?

I heard the A032R isn't bad in the wet

If you want a 165 width tyre use the A008, good in the wet and brilliant in the dry. If a 145 tyre is needed then the falken sincera is actually decent in the wet (have these on my Clubman Estate)

The yokohamas have a very narrow tread.  I'd change them if I could but 4 more tyres is a cost I don't need atm.

I've got the 145 Falkens. They seem all right to me but it's been a long pause since I've driven the car on anything else so don't have anything to compare with. They do seem a bit slippery in the wet. But is more grip necessarily more fun?

My thinking is also that if I went to wider tyres on my car (which is a bone-stock 1000 and always has been) I would also need to upgrade the brakes (which are drums). In standard form everything is quite well matched to everything else. It's fantastic to drive and it's the car I remember from long ago. Sometimes less is more (although I expect hot minis can be a great deal of fun too).

+1 for Blockley's.  A safe amount of grip in the wet but still lots of fun.

I use camacs. Mainly for the retro tread pattern, they seem to understeer a bit in the dry, not tried them I'm the rain but apparent they're not great.
Cheap though and dont seem to wear that much.

On one mini I installed a set of the SP10s from Japan. I can't say anything about their performance since I've only used them on dirt and gravel "roads".

On a 3.5 x 10 rim the Blockleys are probably the best available.

On a 4.5 x 10 I use A008's, although I think I will try the Blockley 165/70 x 10 next time as they have the old Dunlop SP3 tread pattern.

You should not need wheel arch extensions with a 165 section tyre so long as the datum offset of the wider wheel is the same as the 3.5" wheel.

I had Camac's in the 1990s.  Don't know if they are the same these days but back then they had hardly any wet grip.

My first Mini, in 1963, had 5-20 x 10 crossplies when I got it. Soon changed to 145x10 Michelin X.

I expect you're still trying to wear out those Michelin X.
