I have a short length of rubber hose from the underbody metal fuel pipe, which leads to a short length of metal pipe to the carb.

Is this original or does the underbody metal fuel pipe come all the way up the bulkhead to the carburettor?

Its normal to have a section of rubber hose in the fuel line - this is how they were originally built

originally the underbody fuel pipe would have connected to the fuel pump on the back of the engine block.  the short section of hardline would then be used to connect the pump to the carb

My mk1 has a hard line right up to the bulkhead through a grommet on the hydro tab, but Mk1's had leccy pumps. Later models had the shorter hard line then rubber to the pump, short rubber out of the pump, then hard line to the carb, with a short rubber the the carb barb.

Depends on the year of your Pickup. Early cars up to '69 would have an electric pump on the rear subframe so the pipe at the front would go up to the carb . Later cars would have a mechanical pump on the back of the engine so the pipe would stop lower down .
