that is a shame - a couple of ales and some thinking out loud regarding diagnosis of cause (not just results) is the best way forward if you are planning on reusing the block). Spider's swarf theory is high on the likeliness scale.

So the company that built it (and that are now stripping it) is paying for the rebuild, right? Because that sounds like someone didn’t get it right first time around…
unfortunately not- they say it was running fine when set up on rolling road- said the cause was petrol in the engine-lol

Any indication as to the reason for the failure?
they said impossible tosay definitely, as it was so knackered -but petrol in oil- so fuel leak ? over fuelling- ( did have. a sticky choke)

If the engine builder thinks its an external influence to the problem, ie overfuelling, leaking fuel pump, without them actually knowing the cause of failure isn't fixing a problem, unless the issue was internal to the engine that they built.
Personally - i'd be getting my engine back and seeking advice of independent professionals.

guess that would be a gamble- as cost of transport , inspection etc
