Hi there, I need to choose between these 2 kits:

A) Minispares Verto Clutch kit 190mm for Carb cars: https://www.minispar...GCU90122AF.aspx

B) MED Verto Clutch kit (180mm) https://www.med-engi...ultra-light-st1

MS kit has a dampened plate that is 190mm and MED is not dampened and its 180mm, but it comes dynamically balanced.

What would be your choice? what would be the difference in how the car feels between these two? Road application.

I need to get the flywheel too, they both come with a flywheel. I’m just curious about how the car would drive with a dampened 190mm vs a non dampened 180mm. That’s what would define which one I get

Any Verto set up will need balancing as they are no longer balanced as standard. Can you or do you I’ve someone who can balance it?

if going new then you can fit either size friction plate. If you are just replacing the friction plate you need to replace like for like unless you have the surfaces remachined.

that would be my options for which to pick for your application.

I’m going to replace everything. MED kit comes balanced but not the MS, which add to its cost. My choice will depend on the difference the size of the friction plate and dampening makes.Thats what is like to understand

Where does it say the MED kit is 180mm? I can't see that (but I'm old.....!)

Damping will probably make for a smoother take up, though my verto clutches both have springs in them.  They're both 190mm as well.  The other point beyond the need to balance the MS unit is the need to fit a centre boss to the MS clutch.  You can use your old one or buy new but new bolts will be neessary either way, preferrably the plain shank bolts, and ensuring the correct torque to stop them coming loose.

I'm expecting to change my clutch on 92 SPI now HIF44 and 1380

MED is 180mm using a clutch plate with no springs, a 20% upgraded cover plate, a lightened flywheel, and fully balanced to 1 gram. A really attractive option.

My alternative being considered is the MS turbo clutch kit with the same clutch plate and uprated cover plate as MED, but re-using my flywheel. This will need to be balanced. I've worked out how to static balance on a motorcycle wheel balancer which will cost  extra..

Not sure yet which way I will go.

Are you talking about the Stage 1 or Stge 2 from MED?

MED rate the stage 1 as 80 lb-ft before bedding in, and the stage 2 at 120 lb-ft.. Its on my list to contact them about the expected torque handling when bedded in. One of their videos rates the stage 1 as good to over 100hp with associated torque. The MG Metro Turbo is rated around 90 lb-ft or above.

MED are really good at responding to tech support requests. They answered all my question re roller rockers and recommended my choice (1.5:1 with my engine/cam). Response was always less than 1 day, usually within a couple of hours.

You might want to contact A.C Dodd, he's getting some pretty impressive figures using std parts.

Im using the minispares kit for 4 years now and it works perfect. Also in citiy traffic the pedal feels easy and the weight of the flywheels is perfect, idle and response are like oem.

But very important controll every clutch kit, even when they say it is balanced, always recheck it.

Late to the party but I just installed the MED A+ Stage 1 kit in mine. It's excellent quality, as you'd expect. I primarily chose them because it's pre-assembled and balanced.

Its a very good offer the kit from MED, but their rig is broken at the moment, they can balance the kits for a while :(
