Good Morning

I’m really struggling finding the correct wiring diagram for my mini as I’m finding the 1988 onwards diagram in the Haynes manual and online here doesn’t have the correct coloured wires or amount of wires correct.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? The distributor has 2 leads (solid white and white and black) the wires from the loom are solid white and white and brown and a white and black)

Any help would be appreciated as after a full rebuild I can’t get the thing to run!

White/Brown is for the oil pressure warning switch. Both white go to coil + and both White/Black go to coil -.

The white/brown is for the rev gauge - I traced the wiring, the purple and black cable goes to the oil pressure switch.

Does the W/B cable from the distributor go to the coil positive or negative? Also where does the solid white go from the distributor?

White/black goes to negative.  A black trace indicates a wire supplies an earthed component, such as the horn. The distributor earths the coil & fires a spark plug by interrupting the earth.

The white/brown should be to the oil pressure switch. The rev counter senses the coil voltage via the other white/ black that doesn't go to the distributor, it should show no voltage if it's disconnected from the coil (ignition turned on).

The white/brown earths the oil warning light (ignition on) via the pressure switch when there's no oil pressure holding the switch open. It should show voltage if it's disconnected: from either the switch or the coil.

Thanks Ethel , what happens with the solid white from the distributor? Also what would the purple be doing as it’s got a spade connector on it?

Solid whites are ignition switched lives it goes on the  +ve.

Solid purples are fuse protected permanent lives. There shouldn't be any in reach of the coil, unless it's an early car with a horn push steering wheel.  If it's purple with a black trace it's the supply to the horn from the stalk.

Later cars: fused live (purple) > stalk  > (purple/black) horn > earth

Early cars: fused live (purple) > horn > (purple/black) horn push > earth

I don't see a wiring diagram in the redrawn ones on here that exactly fits your description as the 1988 on show ballast ignition which you obviously don't have, however most of the rest will be common to your car so....

As mentioned White/Brown is the oil pressure warning light  - live to bulb then live W/N from bulb to switch/earth (earth through engine/body)

Also mentioned Purple/Black is the horn feed live to switch then live P/B from switch to horn (earth through body)

Solid white from the distributor sounds like a live feed usually a piggy back from the live feed to the coil

i.e white wire to the coil +ve /9normal) and then a white wire from there to the dizzy

As also mentioned the white/black wire from the dizzy goes to the coil -ve and a second W/B wire feeds the rev counter

Hope this is some help
