Thanks for confirming- can I bend it back? Or is it a new carb?

If the jet doesn't slide freely up into the carb base, it is bent.  You could try straightening it, but I'd go for a new jet.  You can get one which isn't the thermo type to give more clearace.

You just need a new jet (waxstat type for simplicity). They are a part which is meant to be relatively regularly replaced.

Thanks. I used some pliers to crudely straighten it out in situ and leaned the mixture out a lot and it spat a huge amount of black gunk out onto the drive and then ran quite smoothly. It has just run me about 3 miles and started straight after so I’m guessing I’ve found the issue! I’ll get a service kit and get it all sorted when I next get some time. Thank you all!
