it has an internal pipe to collect from the depression in the base of the tank

Thanks, is the collection pipe part available separately?

I couldn't see anything on Mini Spares diagrams.

I should remember all this but i refurbished the tank more than 5 years back.

photo (upside down!) of the internal arrangement - note that there is a gauze filter on the end of the collector pipe

did you use any kind of tank sealer when you refrubed the tank ?

Thanks @KTS for the pic. It was so long ago, probably more like 8 years. I did not use any sealant.

It looks like the gauze filter is nylon rather than metal so i guess there is some hope of restoring fuel flow.

How did you clean up your tank?

Did you use a sealant in the end?

If you have a filter between your tank and pump you'll also be likely to encounter issues.

the tank was cleaned up and repainted - nothing on the inside was touched

Thank you. That's what I did. A new cork gasket for the sender etc.

It's a bit upsetting when the petrol comes through the sender screws. Some blue hylomar fixed that at the time though.

I have one of the Proline (i think, the same as Mini Spares sell anyway) glass inline filters just after the tank outlet and before the pump.

It did look like brewed tea in there.
Once i disconnected the rubber pipe between the tank and the filter the old petrol drained out and the filter looked clean.

Sadly no petrol came out of the tank at this point.

yep - mine leaked after the rebuild so replaced the blue hylomar with Permatex #2 on the gasket and it's not leaked since

Yep same leak for mine. Quarter turn on all the screws seemed to fix it

Thanks. I was just doing some research on Permatex 2 and I think Permatex or their holding company own Hylomar.

I have removed the petrol tank from the Pickup out and drained the petrol from it.

I will get a new fitting kit but i was wondering how to actually replace the 3 nylon inserts that are under the load bed?

Is there a particular technique or knack to use to replace them?

If you mean where the fixing screws screws screw into plastic downstands, they just clip in, so they can be prized out with a screwdriver.  ISTR that the screw expands them into the load bed for security.

Thanks. Yes, that is the one. I'll get the Mini Spares fixing kit because a couple of the screws look a bit rusty: http://minispares.co...04.aspx|Back to

Has anyone used Bilt Hamber's Deox-C to revive a fuel tank?

The pickup had grown tired of waiting to fixed up and decided to brew some tea in the meantime.  Thankfully it is just old petrol and not an indication of how bad the tank innards are. Once disconnected, a small amount of fuel drained out the filter looked clean

The petrol tank doesn't look too bad. Unfortunately i couldn't steer the endoscope past the baffle via the filler neck. I could have removed the sender of course but that would have delayed the cleaning solution phase.

I have filled the tank with Deox-C and will check the condition tomorrow.

I had forgotten that there are only actually two nylon inserts needed for the shorter screws. The third is a captive nut type plate because of the proximity to the exhaust. I gave it a liberal spraying of Ferrosol.
