So, we've got a1990 Cooper RSP fitted with twin carburettors and electronic ignition.

The distributor was replaced back in February due to the original one being faulty but this one has now gone wrong as the mechanical advance is sticking so it won't pick up properly.

I have arranged to send it back for a refund but my tuning guy has said to get a Lucas 45 D4 but all I seem to be able to find with this model is fitment for MG's and other older Mini's and other Leyland products.

Obviously, it has got to be compatible with the electronic ignition so any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

a 45d4 usually fits only an A series, not A+ which you most likely have. you should be looking for a 59d4 or 65d4, then you need to recurve it to suit your engine.

123 distributor. Simple install and timing. Fit, set the internal timing light at TDC, select your timing curve on the rotary switch and done.

Have you tried some oil on the screw under the rotor?Often overlooked.Have you lubed the pivots for the weights? Not much to go wrong here assuming nothing is visibly broken.Just an old man's thoughts.Steve..

You need a 65DM4 and have it curved by AC Dodd or H&H Ignition.

If your engine is otherwise unmodified, this one out of the box will be quite close to what you need;-
