Hi, I have a 1969 Mk2 1000 (LHD) and was mulling over indicator options .. the indicator I have, fully functional, lights the small green light in the centre binnacle when turning … all correct and good. However .. it’s innocuous to say the least and I was wondering if I could change the MK2 stalk for the MK1 so the indicator is on the stalk instead? My other thoughts were to split the wiring at the binnacle and use the unused warning amber lights on either side of the binnacle to make it more obvious for appropriate left and right turns. Any views?

Well, The MK1 stalk does not have a horn function as it was in the wheel centre.  For safety reasons, I discretely fitted hazard warning lights as the UK have this brilliant idea of doing away with a hard shoulder on motorways, so if your old car packs up, you could end up stuck in a live running lane with no warning for oncoming traffic.  Anyway, I used the unused amber lights in the speedo for the hazard lights,

Is it possible to add an audible warning?  Even the little light on the Mk 1 stalk is pretty insignificant.

You can get indicator relays that beep/buzz, often used on motorbikes. Have one in my car, much easier to notice when you haven't canceled the indicator!

The single green tell tale sits between the L & R circuits. When you indicate L it uses the R indicators as an earth & vicky verky. It's important the bulb bolder is isolated from the dash, but it does mean you can easily get separate L & R telltales by just run each wire via a warning lamp to earth.

On my Mk2 (RHD) I've used the two amber lights on the dial for left and right. Left is very obvious. Right tends to get blocked by the steering wheel - but that'll be different for everyone.

Excellent video, with so many people converting to LED it should be pined to the Tech section.
