Hi everyone, thought I'd best get some details up of the mini we purchased for my better half recently. I've been into older cars, mainly Citroens for a long time, have a pretty hands on and can do attitude etc so when this was seen on a well known internet auction site we decided it was time for a purchase.

What we knew, car had been off the road in dry storage since 1992, last change of keeper was 1989. It actually was a barn find

Here we have it the day we collected it

Having a little look inside we find that its had an aftermarket dash fitted at some point, looking kind of rally spec with moved fuses, handy map reading light and the long toggle switches

It was missing a flywheel/clutch assembly and is wearing metro front hubs, without any of the modifications needed to make the camber correct, so ive got a pair of mini ones to go on when ready. And yes, its got an A+ 1275 from a metro as well.

Its not bad in the way of rust & rot, localised to only a few areas (Both front inner wings mainly and a bit of step/sill work at the front) back end and floors all sound and subframes sound as well. I guess that is where only being on the road 8 years is a good thing. So anyway, i got stuck in. Some cutting and welding, some engine checking and lapping in of the valves, new waterpump, new rubber brake hoses, new clutch slave cylinder, new clutch, rebuilt clutch and brake masters with new seals etc etc- will let the rest of pics speak for themselves so far

Thats about it so far, feel free to comment, laugh, point etc

Looks likes a good solid starting point,. I'd be interested to pull the dash and see how well all that wiring has been done!! I don't recognise the style of dash but it's pretty cool, and they've done well to squish a radio down by the steering column!

Looking at the Mini City Brochure I 'think' your paint colour will be BLVC459 'Eclipse blue', but there should be a 3-digit Paint code on the VIN plate that's riveted to your O/S Inner wing, if it's still there.

Looking forward to seeing the progress (Also,..  your fan has been fitted backwards, whilst it does work this way it wont be shifting as much air as as it should, or working as efficiently as it should)

Welcome to TMF!

I can tell you what the wiring is like already, pretty interesting, sorry did I say interesting, I meant to say like a tangled mess with added mice chewing it damage, wish me luck when I get that far.
Thanks guys for confirming the colour, that’ll make life easier now.
I couldn’t check the vin plate in inner wing, it didn’t have inner wings as they had been cut off, I assume with vin plate still attached. But the stamped in body gutter one is there, so at least I know it’s what it says it is.

Good luck with it and I would be interested to see a pic of the wiring behind that dash!

I think that is going to take some time and patience to figure / sort out.

I got so annoyed with the absolute birds next that was the wiring and half the switches and instruments never having been connected properly but all with wiring to and from somewhere, added in the mouse/rodent damage in the shape of chewed and broken wires. I decided to give up, get a new loom and rever to the standard 2 clocks cluster.

In other news Ive done more welding, had it running and refurbished and installed all the rod change gear linkage, getting there slowly
