Hey,

So to put it briefly, my ET14 wheels stick of the rear arches. I have a 1992 car with rear drums which have the 1 inch spacer built in to the brake drum, as with all post 1984 Minis. Is it an easy job to just bolt on a set of pre-84 drums without the spacer? I'm happy to do the work, just need to know whether the parts are compatible before I buy?

Many thanks

Dan

You will need shorter wheel studs.

have you looked at the front as you are on discs they will stick out just as much on the front.

Nice !

Yes, fairly easy job, though, you'll need to change the wheel studs. To get the long studs out, you will need to remove the Hubs or if you wanted to be a butcher, drill a hole in the brake backing plate to allow the stud to be swung clear of the back of the hub.

Just be sure not to get any dirt or crap in the wheel bearings.

As said if you have disc brakes at the front (1992 Mini) and you swap to non-spacer rear drums your track at the rear will be narrower than at the front which will look odd and may affect handling....assuming you are using the same wheels with ET14 offset front and back.

Alternatively you could try pre'84 drums with narrower separate alloy spacers or fit wider wheel arch extensions.

I cannot remember if the standard short studs will fit with the hub in place but if they do you can always cut the long studs short enough to punch the remainder out. Fit the new studs and pull them in snug.
