I have just had some 13 inch classic mini lite wheels refurbed by a reputable wheel refurb specialist who has been in the business for many years. The kerbing repairs look great but two of the wheels have various small lumps embedded in the finish and what looks like trapped grit in various places. See attached some photos.
I immediately questioned this on collecting the wheels and was told that they can’t control the powder delivery and sometimes clumps come out when this is sprayed on and so can’t be avoided.
I’ve reflected on this and I’m not persuaded by this explanation (based on the finish I had when I had some other wheels refurbed 15 years ago which showed no such issues). But I want to check whether I’m right to challenge the finish or whether I just got lucky last time and it’s within the range of reasonable finishes for powder coated wheels for such defects to appear.
Grateful for any advice from anybody who has had powder coated wheels or seen some after refurb.
