Hello....I have a confession to make. I'm almost 60 and have never owned a Mini. This is a failure which I plan on addressing imminently. When I was 4 or 5 my mum sent my Dad down the village to buy a turkey...and he came back with a £100 Mini, reg 2020TE. Almond Green, green vinyl seats, magic wand gearstick and slidey windows. I'm the middle of three boys, and have a memory of of being in the back while my mum drove with smoke from a menthol fag drifting out of the part-open driver's window.

In my late teens two of my mates bought 998 Minis....Rick had one in Sandglow (?) while Dave's was blue....maybe Tahiti? Rick's eventually sprouted some bits from Mini Sport in Padiham....100+ alloys, ported cylinder head, twin carbs, LCB manifold and Corbeau seats. Dave cut out the bulkhead, welded in a battery box to make room for a sidedraught Weber....can't remember the engine spec, but I think he bought a 997 Cooper engine?

Now it's my turn...I have loads of project Minis requiring varying amounts of attention in my watchlist on FB Marketplace and eBay. Would love a 1964 model, but the budget would only stretch as far as a rusty wreck, needing 000s. Failing a '64, anything over 40 years would do.

OK - that's it for now. Thanks for having me aboard.

HI

Welcome aboard. Plenty of excellent advice and tips on here.

It sounds as though you will be raiding the saving fairly heavily so I suggest you spend £5 join the forum as a TMF+ member. Once you register your TMF+ membership with Minispares you will get a 71/2% on any purchases from them.

Well worth it.

So, having said that I wanted a tax / MOT exempt classic, I have bought a '93 Sprite needing work!  :D

I have a boot lip repair panel, part boot floor, left hand boot floor, right front wing and a panel plus a complete front panel. And a bonnet.

Maybe I should have made this post in another subforum? Bodywork, paint and detailing? Your Projects?

Never worked on a Mini before....wondering if I should remove the rear subframe first so that I can repair the rear mountings. I'm going to remove the smallest amount possible from the actual boot floor and use as little of the repair panels as I can get away with; I know that other people on here have had poor experiences with the fit around the spare wheel well of the non-genuine repair panel.

Just noticed....it's a right hand boot repair panel. Which is good - the rot is worst on that side. Sills and door steps are good....no oversills!!  :-)
