I take it from reading through some old threads this LSD is a quaife unit.
Anyone using one?
If so how did you relieve the case and diff housing so it fits? Does it need relieving?
There's a fair chunk of cash difference between the Evo and the NXG, is the NXG better material spec?
Lots of questions I know but a bit of forward thinking never hurt 😁

I think the minispares evo diff is a plated unit,(the current item certainly is) whereas quaife and NXG are helical gear items. The quaife/NXG takes a standard type crownwheel and pot joints, whereas the Evo requires a specific crownwheel and output shafts. The overall cost of the quaife type is likely to be lower than the evo.
Then there's the way they work to take into account and the fact that the plated type are not maintainence free and are more aggressive in use.

The Minispares plate-type LSD is more or less the Tran-X unit and Tran-X was taken over by Quaife some time ago. I have the Tran-x one but only for competition. I never felt it necessary to use one on my road-going SPi. On my other Mini I think that the Tran-X is very nice to drive on the track.

On the other hand I overheard a BMW-comps-engineer say at the track that the worm-and-spindle LSD are not really slip limiting and therefore were useless in competition. Full stop, I cannot commend on this as I do not have any experience with worm-and-spindle-LSDs.

If its a B road basher, go for a quaife ATB. It transformed my car from a cross pin.

I have run with a Plate type LSD in a road car and it was horrible. On the Track, a different matter.

For Road use, I've found the ATB to be the bee's knees, but while it would be better than an open diff for track use, an LSD is definitely better here. I'll never ever go back to an open diff.

It's a plate one I will be using.
So if the Evo diff is tran X aka quaife then I wonder why quaife don't list it as one of theirs, eg for spares etc
They only list atb diffs for the mini.
Tran X just going out incognito via minispares!

I read it as they were similar but not necessarily that the Evo was built by Quaife? Quaife are vey clear that they only sell the ATB through Swiftune, why would they be secret squirrel about the plate diff? Their website doesn't mention any other diff for the Mini.

You also asked about relieving the gearbox case. Yes, I had to do this and also had to file down the boltheads of the diff

That's not much relieving compared to what I had to do back in the day with the Salisbury.
It was in a remote case though so maybe they were different regarding the amount of "meat" round that area.

I doubt minispares are tooled up for this 😁
The Evo uses the large diameter output shafts too (ala salisbury) whereas the NXG uses shafts to fit non "S" side covers.
Has Salisbury risen from the grave via minispares 😁

It may well be Quaife, but doing them under a licensing arrangement exclusively for Mini Spares.
