When was the the cutover for JDM Minis for the distributorless engine?
Have you tried the inertia switch? It is in your picture but not labelled. Looking for a diagram...

A ‘98 JDM is distributorless, as far as I’m aware it would have been 1997 same year as the Mpi was introduced in the UK.

How do the plugs look? Could the warm start be over fueling? I do not have experience with FI minis but my Volvo would over fuel during warm startups when the ECU was not tuned properly until I corrected it. Also happened when the coolant temp sensor was bad as well. Sounds like a bad coolant temp sensor to me.

find out first if losing spark or fuel. if an spi you can see the injector spraying into the throttle body with the air filter removed, if no fuel injected is the pump running in the tank? . for spark fit some spark testers inline with plug caps does it drop spark then engine stall?. are you getting a spark when cranking?.

Is there any way to test the coolant temp sensor without removing the inlet manifold?

How’s it coming along Tom? I’m not sure about if you can remove the sensor without removing the manifold but, it will need to be removed to test it.

Sorry, I came down with a cold so I have not made any progress. Hopefully this weekend I will be doing a bunch of different testing. I have the parts to make a mems cable ordered, but it make take a few days for those to get here. I will post when I start making some progress. Thank you everyone for your help and baring with this mini noob. I really appreciate it.
