Has anyone made a list of the fasteners on a mini? I know it would be a long list and take a while. Alternatively, does anyone know where to find the size of a specific fastener. I usually know the thread size and form but it's the length that helps. The specific ones I am interested in are the lengths of the 10-32 unf that fix the door handle mechanism to the door and those same thread used for the door handle itself and window winder handle.

I usually look on minispares, they have a load of exploded diagrams all referenced to part numbers and details

Just look on MiniSpares. If the info is not there copy the part number and paste into Google.

Sipider did mention about the part number giving some info but I forget what it was.

The common and standard fasteners are coded by part number.

The first 3 letters;-

HBN     UNF Plain (or 'black')
HBZ     UNF Zinc Plated
HBP     UNF Chrome Plated
HCN     UNC Plain
HCZ     UNC Zinc Plated
HCP     UNC Chrome

CBN     UNF Cup Head Square Neck Plain

CBZ     UNF Cup Head Square Neck Zinc

HZS     UNF Hex Head Set Screw Zinc Plated
HPS     UNF Hex Head Set Screw Chome
PMZ     UNF Phillips Head Zinc Plated Pan Head
PMP     UNF Phillips Head Chrome Pan Head

There are a few others in that coding system, but that would cover the majority in a Mini.

That's followed by 4 number.

The first 2 digits are the diameter in lots of 1/16";-

04     1/4"

05     5/16"

06     3/8"

etc

The last 2 digits are the length in lots of 1/8";-

08       1"

09       1-1/8"

10       1-1/4"

So a HBZ0514 is a Zinc Plated 5/16" x 1-1/2" Bolt.

That's handy to know, I might just copy and keep that, cheers Spider.

Just to check I've understood correctly I'm looking for PMZ-03-03 (Zinc UNF  of diameter 3/16" also known as or 10-32 and then the length about 3/8 inch I think for the short ones holding the handle to the door skin)

From the MGA stuff and what I already found the length increment for machine screws is 1/16" not 1/8" (1/8" applies to bolts and set screws)

So PMZ310 is a zinc plate UNF machine screw (PMZ) with 3/16" diameter (also known as 10-32) and 10/16" length (or 5/8" if you reduce the fraction)

I've got the full BMC Listings for them, when I get on a decent computer, I'll put them up in FAQ so hopefully they'll be easy to find in future. I have posted them elsewhere in the forum a few times in the past.

I notice that Pozidriv hasn't been mentioned, that MG list doesn't list it either. Most British designs don't actually use Phillips drive but Pozidriv instead.

I'm writing this because most people don't even know what Pozidriv is or that they NEED to be using a "different" screwdriver for it. using the incorrect type or size wrecks both the fastener and the tool.
