Hey everyone bought an Ashtray Clock from Retro-Components and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on install? It has two temp sensors. Just curious what everyone used those for! I’ve got a 93 Rover 1275 IJ.
Thanks

Thanks for the link! But how did you wire it as well? I have two power leads. I’m assuming one is for a low voltage live to keep the time and one for power?

Thanks

You'll need two supplies to it. As you've guessed, one is direct from the battery and other is via the key. For the direct supply, any plain purple wire will give you a fused live feed and for the keyed supply, any plain dark green wire will give you that. There's likely no wires already in that area, you can pick them up off the fuse box though.

I reached out to Retro-Comp as well. They said they can go to the same place?

Er no - you need a permanent live to maintain the "memory" and then a switched/ignition live to bring it to life

As mentioned by others, purple is usually permanent live (and fuse protected although I added a 3A fuse inline) and green usually ignition/switched live (same again fused already but I added a 3A fuse) although I doubt the clock takes anything like 3A they were all I had and better than the probable 15/25/35 amp of the standard fuse box fuses

For the temp sensors I just left them behind the dash - who cares.....

I'd be surprised if it draws even half an amp

I have this clock in mine and it needs no battery for the memory, i connected both wires to the same positive supply(switched) so that the clock is not displayed when ignition key out. I disconnect my battery terminal when leaving the car in the garage and the clock maintains time for me. I even had the car out of action over the winter and time was maintained there must be a small internal battery in the clock?

The clock has a battery inside it to keep time when ignition is off. Mine had 2 sets of wires, one for the clock and one for the usb charger.
