Hi All.
OK i've tried to read as much as i can about Timing but i have a few questions (probably doing it wrong).
SO i have a Gunson Timing gun with a dial on the end.
With the engine idling and up to temperature, with vacuum off at distributor end (and plugged)....
For the pulley notch/marker to show on the very first tooth on the engie side i have to (currently) set the timing dial to 32!
Does that sound right or am i doing something wrong or reading it wrong?
Im' a little confused as i thought it would be reading something like 8 to 12 degrees?
Thanks in advance.
Jez
Sounds like your doing it correctly but the timing is just out.
Make sure your timing gun is connected to cylinder 1 (fan end), everything else you have done sounds correct.
If you loosen the pinch bolt for the distributor and turn it ever so slightly then check the timing again, keep doing this until you get to 8 degrees or wherever you want it.
You may find once you have adjusted the timing the idle speed will need to be adjusted but this is normal.
If you are afraid of messing the timing up, mark the distributor base to the engine position before you start, that way you can line it up to it's original position if it does go wrong. That way you can reset it and start again if your not confident.
If you get stuck let us know. Good luck.
