98 MPI with ignition off and lights on my dash lights both indicator icons up, with lights off and ignition on indicators work as they should. Can anyone explain why when the lights and ignition are on my indicators do not work? With the ignition on and I switch the lights off the wipers wipe once (wipers set to off)

 

I'm leaning towards indicator/light switch stalk but why the wipers run once I have no idea....

I have a similar problem. With new aindicator stalk, ignition on indicators work, headlights on, indicators don't work. Could it be that the battery is not strong enough?

Unfortunately for me I have a brand new battery, problem still persists. I have removed the steering wheel and the indicator and wiper stalks. Even with the indicators disconnected at the steering wheel, they still come on when the lights are turned on.....   Can anyone shed some light on my problem? I'm currently unable to MOT with this problem...

sounds like you are missing a negative some where although where?? try disconnecting plug from dash do indicators work with headlights lights on now? if same then make sure headlight negatives are good, also check negative connection point to left of engine bay.

Turned out to be the earth located under the expansion bottle.
