So i'm toying with the idea of a new project, and I'd like it to be a 1098 as everything I've read about the 1098's characteristics appeal to me. I love my 998, but would love it even more if i could bring the power band down to about 3k rpm. I'm mainly into driving on hills and twisty roads, though for the motorway I'm happy to sit at 70 (which already feels a little fast for the mini). Generally I don't take my car above 4500 rpm for long, so I think the 1098's safe margin of 5500-6000 rpm won't be a problem.

That said, it is becoming apparent to me that 1098s are exceedingly rare in Malaysia and I've tried searching about to no luck so far, which got me thinking...

Suppose I made a trip up to the UK, where might I source a good 12G82 crank for my project? Considering I don't really know anyone from the mini scene over there, I'd really want to get it off someone trustworthy as it might be hard to have the journals inspected and the crank crack tested beforehand.

Also anyone have measurements on the dimensions and weight of the crank?

Sorry to see you got no response here.  I'm unable to help you find the crank either unfortunately.  Did you manage to get your hands on one?
