Hi all. I've been considering my first Mini and I've been looking at a 1991 Rover Mini but had a question on the VIN. I have a photo from the seller, but something doesn't add up It seems like the 8th position has a three where you'd commonly see a 1 or 2 and in the 9th position, I should see a N, R or S, but see a 0.  I was hoping you could tell me if this is a valid VIN for this era of Mini. Something seems amiss here. The VIN is SAXXL2S3021481776. Thanks for your help.

SAX = MG-Rover
X = non-significant
L = 998cc
2S = 2-door saloon/sedan

3 ?
should be 1 - Round nose, 2 - Clubman
It's possible that the 3 was an indicator of something else for the Japanese cars maybe, or the number was just recorded wrong.

0 = E, City E (I think)
2 = 1984-on
1 = Left-hand drive ? or just start of sequential build number

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I'll go check it out. It's a left-hand drive car and the vin plate has definitely been removed and re-mounted at some point. I'd used that link you included, but found it odd that there were 2 anomalies, so I figured I'd ask the experts.
