Does anyone out there know of any garages that specialise in Minis or older cars in the Nottingham area? The bloke that used to service my car has now retired, and several local garages I've spoke to seem less than enthusiastic. I have a couple of issues, if anyone could offer some advise. Firstly, I need to get my car's underneath rust-proofed(Waxoyl etc.). Do you know of anyone offering this service? Secondly, My fuel gauge has always been a bit inaccurate. Is this the gauge or sender unit? When I fill the tank up, it reads just over 3/4. It drops down OK but I never know how near the red line I dare go. So affecting my long range journeys. My car is an MPI if it makes any difference. Any help would be most welcome. Cheers.

Re the fuel gauge, its my experience that they can be very variable and changing the sender doesn't always do much or can make it variable in a different direction, you just need to understand what the position on your car means but can be nerve wracking to find that out....
I have three minis but have had them some time and can "read" the gauges:
1) Very good - full means full, drops constantly and when it gets on the line of the E mark there is not much left
2) Terrible - reads full but drops really quickly and the E mark means there is about a 1/4 tank left (I've never dared take it lower.....!)
3) Somewhere between the two - never gets quite to full but drops constantly and the E mark means there is some left but not a 1/4
