Rsp - Electric Fan?

Good evening, a quick question regarding the lack of an electric cooling fan; or not, as the case may be.Attached File  IMG_0242.jpg   77.98K   0 downloads

We have had the car a few months now and have noticed the wiring shown in the photos. I am assuming this may be something related to a supplementary electric fan which obviously fits under the N/S front wing but there is no fan present and no actual provision for one. The car had a full body rebuild last year by the previous owner so I am wondering if this was left off for some reason. The wiring has obviously been on the car originally so I am wondering if I can now retro fit a fan; I know Mini Spares do a kit. The car doesn't appear to suffer from the lack of the electric fan other than sometimes when stuck in traffic, the temperature gauge does creep up a bit but switching the heater on normally solves it.

Anyway, if someone can shed some light on what the wiring is for and if I can fit a fan with what is there, that would be great.

last picture looks more like the plug on the dim-dip relay (and that is the right location for the resistor part of that setup)

two blue ones look home-made and could be anything, use a meter and check for 12v when cold and then when hot?  or check for continuity between the two ends when cold and then hot ?

The two wires that I am holding are connected to what looks like some sort of sensor in the connecting block between the thermostat housing and the cylinder head so that is why I am thinking it may be linked to the non-existent fan.

1990 Cooper (Rover Special Products)     

"The Cooper RSP fan assembly PGF10038 is no longer available, but may be directly replaced by the later Cooper Carburetter item PGG10046 if required."

Possibly then the two are either side of a thermostat switch then, that's what I was thinking re checking for continuity when the engines hot, then you know if you can pass 12v through it and use that circuit as a relay trigger

I have an RSP
There are two blue (/white?) wires leading to a bullet connector junction with two wires from the fan.
I guess the good news is you have the thermo switch installed, although whether it works is another matter.

Thanks for all the useful information guys; I'll have a look at the wiring and see if there is a circuit when hot and/or cold.
