Hi,

could anyone tell me what the correct length of the dip stick is for a 998cc cooper mk2?

They are all the same. Except very early 850s, MPIs and autos.

what’s your problem?

I have a sneaky feeling that the dipstick might not be long enough!

basically, the level is about half an inch below minimum, when I top it up it virtually spits it back out and ends up back at the same level, I am thinking maybe I’m overfilling it due to incorrect dipstick. Then pressure release valve is spitting it out

Pressure release valve is internal and volume won’t affect it. Probably more that you’ve got a leak that only becomes obvious when the oil is full, something like diff outputs which are ‘higher up’ in relation to the oil level.

Ok for you to check you don’t have the wrong dip stick.
