Hi,

I've just spent over a week sorting out my wiper mechanism, and the mechanism is now working perfectly (new main motor gear plus wheel boxes), but it's got me seeking perfection on the wiper front !

Has anyone cured wiper blade judder/screech on 90s Minis with the standard black arms?  I think every 90s Mini I've ever owned has done this.  New blades dont help much/at all.  Its on Bosch wiper blades just now.

I saw a video on YouTube with someone curing it on a modern car, by twisting the angle of the arm slightly so the blade sits at a slightly different angle to the glass - has anyone tried this on a Mini?  It seems to mainly happen when the arms are arriving at the bottom of the glass, but also now just in front of the driver - so the arms at either extreme of their travel.

Suggestions appreciated!

Sorry if this has been tackled on the forum before - I had a search and couldn't see anything!

You just need to treat the front windscreen with Rain X.

I went from original black arms to chrome counterparts....worse thing ever, so put the original black arms back on and then treated the glass to rain x

Claybar your windscreen and then use a good wax. I rarely have to use my wipers.

As a bloke who's idea of cleaning a car is to lob a bucket of soapy water at it and then to hose it off, can you explain to me the operations involved? My Mk1 could do with some serious windscreen pampering.

The Minispares 'Heavy Duty' wiper blades and RH or LH park Heavy Duty wiper arms are much better than the cheaper standard items:-

I slightly twisted the arm on mine (using two adjustable spanners) to allow the blade to quickly "flop-over" onto it's opposite side as soon as it starts to reverse direction at each end. Completely eliminated the judder and now clears the screen perfectly. The angle of the arms to the windscreen changes across the sweep, so the amount of twist needed is a bit hit-and-miss.

Mine's a Mk2 with MS's Heavy Duty blades/arms, but the principle is similar for all types.

No worries! So clay comes in different hardnesses, I usually use a soft one for all bodywork. Wash the car as usual, or in this case the windscreen, then use soapy water as a lubricant in a spray bottle and keep the area you're claying liberally coated whilst rubbing the glass gently with the clay. You'll he surprised as how much schutz gets into the glass!

Regular ol' carnauba wax Steve? I've thought about it and rejected it thinking that once you've used your wipers over the wax it'd get 'scratched'.

I've tried all the options for wipers and for the last few years have stuck with generic hook-type (Landover etc(as they're finished so sh!tly I give the a couple of coats of paint and a wax before I fit them)) and Bosch SP11 blades:https://windscreenwi...e-11-280mm.html

I have these and the (LHD) driver's side wiper never actually wipes the bottom half of the screen directly in front of the driver.

I tried swapping the wipers over but it didn't make a difference.

Is there anything else I can adjust to make it actually touch the screen when it wipes?

Only ever had judder on the Midas. new blades, clean screen, and fully re-grease the wiper motor and spindles, removing any old hard grease.
Obviously make sure your wiring to the motor is in good condition too, with no high resistance on the power or ground.

I bought these and on the return journey to docking the wiper rubber is pushing against the flow, instead of flopping over. I think I'll try the two adjustable spanner trick mentioned above.
