Hi all

Just wanted to introduce myself before I go diving into the forums.

After 30 odd years of wanting a mini, I finally got drunk enough to buy a project, sight unseen, off the interweb. I used to help my mate (constantly) fix one of his mini's back in the day and got the bug early on, but never managed to own one.

I'll try to get some photos up I have a 1985 rolling shell (and reg) which seems, as far as mini shells go, quite solid and is mainly more metal than holes, so that's always a good start. I also have an engine/box (needs rebuild), steering column, wiring loom, boot, bonnet and that's about the lot.

This is going to be a 5-10 year project and the wife has decreed I can't start it until I finish the house, which was the last stupid bloody purchase and was in in far worse condition than the mini! I'm going to start with the bodywork as it's the bit I'm dreading. My welding is highly suspect (but I have a got a big grinder which solves that problem) and I hate sanding so figure I might as well spend the next three years getting it over and done with.

No idea on colour or style just yet, he'll speak to me when he's getting fixed.

Nice meeting you all. See you around the forum 👍

I did the same - bought a car after a few beers and my man maths shows that I haven't really spent £4k but I have saved over £300 using my Minispares discount  :D.  Plus Rich is a top bloke to deal with!

Drinking and browsing can be as dangerous as drinking and driving...

I literally did the same last year.  Just got finished converting my auto mini into a manual.  I wish I had heard of the TMF discount, where do I sign up?

Thanks for letting me know that I'm not the only one who bought a car after a drink or two.

Bought my Pickup on eBay as a birthday present to myself after celebrating my birthday with some red wine.

Have fun and Happy Mini!

I also did this.... but living in the North East of Scotland everything needs a long journey to collect...

Won the car on e.bay for £250....

Cost me £350 for fuel to get to the sellers location with the trailer... only to find at least 3 tubs of filler, very visible in most panels, with the photographs having been taken in the dark some months before....

Typical for my luck...

Quick check of the local car sales adverts saw me in another driveway collecting another mini..

not a complete waste of time, seller really did not believe I had travelled so far....

Not allowed on e.bay when drinking now....

I manage to buy things I don't need without drinking 🙁
I blame poor telly.
