Hey guys

 

Looking for some advice, just started stripping my 64 850 and found some serious cancer in the rear end.

What would be the best way to tackle this job? Was thinking heritage boot floor and some non heritage panels for a long the boot hinge area?

Has anyone got some good pictures of undertaking this job?

I would look at a complete bootfloor and a pair of rear inner wheel arches, a lower rear panel repair section.

 

Before proceeding though have a look at the rest of the car and determine what you are going to have to weld to, as you might need other panels like the heel board, rear quarters etc.

 

What is the main floor like?

Thanks @Homersimpson, the floor is pretty pitted but there is no serious cancer.

If it were my car I would have it shot blasted or chemically dipped (I prefer blasting as it stress tests the metal to some extent and doesn't leave any nasty chemicals in seams or box sections) before proceeding to see the extent of the damage, that floor doesn't look good and you might find that once cleaned up its either weak or peppered with little holes.

 

At least by blasting/dipping you will be able to see exactly what is needed and forumulate a plan.

Pictures i can give you by the bucket load, look at project Paddy in my signature. That is a complete rear end replacement from the rear window down.

 

Now as to that floor, i'm sorry but that floor is toast. If its pitted its thinned and i bet underneath will be bad as well.

 

Personally i would bite the bullet and buy a complete floor assy inculding crossmember and heelboard.

 

With it being a 64 i would defo visit M Machine's website. However please bear in mind they sell Heritage Magnum and their own pressings. 

 

Your biggest issue here is distance and getting the panels you need. I would say talk to Doreen but being in Oz may make that expensive.

50p size hole... usually ends up whole boot floor..
