Picked up this big boy yesterday as the starting point for a new project. It's been born out of spending time on Ebay over Xmas and seeing a vehicle which captured my interest enough to persuade me to put the '75 R90s, that I've owned since 1980 but hardly use now, on the market to fund building something similar. Once I've sold the bike I'll move to the next phase and the object of my desire will become obvious.

Guesses on a postcard.

Coffee table?

That would have been the engine's fate if stripping it down revealed it was cheap for a reason, but so far it's looking surprisingly good, most importantly no sign of dropped liners or cracked block. The local youth motor project that I chair is delving into it as a project - so far they've taken the injection unit and one head off. I managed to get another bargain in the form of clean twin SUs on their manifold for £40! I was planning to fit an Edelbrock inlet and carb but at £1200 oldschool has won out for now.

Of course it will lose that number in favour of an age related GB one (if I can persuade DVLA to accept a letter from JagLR as proof of date of manufacture!) so once I have the new number I'll see if that suggests a name before I decide finally. Yes - the safari roof would be very useful with all the sunshine we've been having!

Much as I love my Mini, I do miss the sound of the V8 I had in my Cobra!

I do love a landrover we always had them growing up

here's me about 35 years ago we used to play all over that thing like it was a climbing frame, pretending to drive it .. jumpers for goalposts, oranges at half time and so on

20180805-100915.jpg

also with the safari roof ( I think it was ex-RAF? certainly military of some sort) it had a lethal metal bar going across behind the front seats I would have lost all my teeth to that if there was ever a crash

edit: checked with dad, it was ex M.O.D
