I've put 4 new plugs in now, so will see how that goes when I next go out. If it is anything like my other car, a '72 Karmann Ghia, it'll be temperamental!

That's why we love Minis so much it is all part of the fun of owning one. Built in from the factory :D

The fluffy part throttle is suggestive of a manifold or throttle shaft air leak - wary of chucking enough suggestions at you for a nut & bolt rebuild!

Nut & bolt rebuild is definitely above my pay grade! I'll keep my fingers crossed for the temperamental option! It has a stage 1 kit with K&N filter, the previous owner had refitted the original airbox and made several holes in it as he felt it lagged a bit.
Since fitting the K&N I had the carb set up at a local classic car garage and it did run OK. I take it that it'll be ok just to leave as is and take into account the first little throttle input is a bit iffy, just for a second or two. After all, driving a Mini sedately is no fun, as the right foot can be a tad heavy.

I've just done about 80miles in it at around 50mph, a couple of times 65! Got to say it went well and sounded good. The only real issue is that it has a tendency to stall when idling, sometimes it doesn't. One thing I have noticed is that after fitting a new water pump the temp gauge is now halfway between C and N. It used to be spot on N. Would this be because the new pump is performing better tha the old one?
Cheers,
Kev

Don’t forget what time of year it is, my daily cooper has a works grille muff on covering 90% of the airflow to get normal running temp and good oil temps on a motorway run .
