Hi,

I am interested in finding out what size of wheel was fitted to the John Cooper conversion Minis in the late 80s, before Rover had made the 4.5x12 wheel for the Mini 30.  In the photos they fill the arches much better than the Rover wheels.  I have a reason to suspect they could be 5.5 x 12 but would love someone to point me at some period information about this.

Thanks,

- Rob

When this 1986 'C' Reg Mini Cooper prototype was for sale in 2021 (see link below) the close up photo of the alloy wheel shows the word 'Mistral' and 'MOD' if you look closely:-

This old TMF thread says 5 x 12" and the alloy pics look the same.

Mistral MOD Minilite-Style Wheels:-

The Mini Wheel Directory photo Carmona Mistral is also 5 x 12" but looks different:-

I have the John Cooper Conversion pamphlet from 1989 with a photo of the white alloys on the back cover and looking at the printed specs it says 'Set of 4 5J x 12 alloy road wheels, including 16 chrome wheelnuts'.

The company that made them was Carmona. They were made in 5.5 x 12 and 5 x 12, but looks like JCG's only sold the 5 x 12.

I have these same wheels on my 1990 Studio 2 in silver. They were on it when I bought the car 8 years ago. MOD & MISTRAL on the front and on the back it says ITALY. Not sure what they were originally on or what color they should have been.

Lucky you. Would love a set for my 1990 Flame Red JCC. I believe that if they were the John Cooper ones they only came in white.
