[Has anyone got detailed engine bay photos of a 1992 SPI for electric and hose routing]

Hi, I am in real trouble. I am not the most mechanically minded person so I sent my 1992 spi mini of to have the bodywork done. The guy I sent it to dismantled the car entirely, engine out etc. 3 years later.... He then basically vanished from the earth. I have luckily retrieved the car (shell) and boxes and boxes of parts. I then gave the car to a mechanic friend who has mostly put the car back together. I now have multiple issues, but the most annoying is that the car starts and runs, but will not really rev properly and backfires into the manifold etc. My friend has done his best but thinks when re-assembling the engine bay and pipework etc some hoses and wiring has gone to the wrong location. The car was perfectly fine and running before the first guy disappeared an as I said runs now, but not properly. So if anyone has some detailed photos of the engine bay and rear of the engine (air filter off). It would be appreciated. I am even willing to pay lol. I am thousands of pounds out of pocket as I paid the first guy up front (yes I know I am stupid) and I have had to pay my friend to reassemble the car. All photos appreciated and videos showing routing of pipes, hose etc would be amazing if anyone can help as I dont even know if I have all the parts???

Thanks in advance....

I'm not going to be any help I'm afraid but one thing that occurs to me is, if you were to get the ball rolling by taking a comprehensive series of pictures from a lot of different angles, and upload them on this thread, people might be able to spot things that look out of place and then follow that up with more things to check no doubt

I use https://imgbb.com/ but other options are available

best of luck with it

Has your mechanic had the car on a code reader/diagnostics machine? No clues there?

Electrical wise the wiring diagrams for various ages of Mini can be found in the link below.

Has the wiring loom been checked for areas where it's rubbed through and may be shorting on the body? I've had this issue before, behind the throttle body, that caused rough running, idle issues and struggling under load. Mine were specifically the feed to the O2 sensor in the exhaust manifold.

I have a Flickr album of photos of my engine bay in various states of dismantlement (?) but I'm not sure it's public (https://www.flickr.c...@N04/3x10aQv310)

. Here's one that shows the air filter removed, but also the fuel feed & return which should connect to the brass fitting on the throttle body in the centre of the picture. These fuel pipes are colour coded, but I'm assuming these are correctly fitted of the car will run.

Other things to check are whether the vacuum pipes are connected up right, and are holding vacuum. These are also colour coded. There's a description of each in the descriptions here.

There's also a really good thread in the injection specific forum that runs through the various sensors, see below. I've had my coolant temp sensor under the inlet manifold cause terrible running issues as well.

Good luck with it.
