Unknown Bracket

Hi I have a question,spider may know the answer,I have a Australian moke and looking for a part today I found a bracket I can't remember seeing before,it has a part number of ayk2888 I can't find anything about it,I took pictures of the car while stripping it,but that is the one part I dont have a picture of.

However, it's highly likely you won't need it or be able to use it.

These were fitted from late 1978 when there was an option for the 1275 engine. The Radiator Cowling on the body was 3/8" narrower in width to allow space for the 4 Tube (Core) Radiator that was fitted standard to the 1275 Mokes. The body of course was common to the 998 and 1275 engined Mokes and so this very odd ball bracket was introduced to move the stock 3 tube (core) Radiator over 3/8" closer to the body on the 998 engined Mokes.

Further, this was a bit of an odd ball set up overall. These Brackets in all their various forms (there was 3 types all together), were used from early in 1976 on both Minis and Mokes as these were fitted with an Air Pump as part of the emission controls of the era. Due to where and how the Air Pump was mounted, it was necessary to relocate the top radiator hose so that it exited the head towards the firewall. This used a also odd ball Thermostat Cover, Radiator and Top Hose.

The particular Thermostat Covers are available as a spare part, but quite eye watering in price !  The AYK2888 and it's variants won't work with the more 'normal' front facing 12G103 style Thermostat Cover.

 

These Radiators that have the top hose going to the rear of the top Tank and the Heater connection to the front of the lower Tank are well and truly NLA, though they do take a standard core.

 

If I can suggest, rather than boxing yourself in with these very odd ball and hard to get parts, I'd suggest setting it up with a 'normal' Radiator, a 12G103 Thermostat Cover and a commonly available 12A201 / CAM4619 Top Bracket.

Thanks for the replies,I'm not sure I took it off the moke,I got a box of bits with the moke and may have put it in the wrong box at some point,but mystery solved.thanks.

That one suits a 1275. The 998 one has the 'angled' stud pattern and so the housing is also off-set to suit.

Also, the new ones don't have the mounts for the Air Pump, though, I have no idea why anyone would want to refit one !

Incidentally,,,,,

The Air Pump and all that malarkey was never needed for the Moke to meet our local rules. In that era, they applied to passenger cars and Mokes were classed as a Motor Lorry (Truck). They were only fitted with it because from later in 1975 and on, all our Power Units were imported as CBUs from the UK. At that time, the Mini was still in production and by far in terms of production numbers was dominant over the Mini Van and Moke, so only the one style / type power unit was ordered and used in all vehicles. 

After the Mini and Mini Van ceased production, the only vehicle left in production using the transverse A Series power unit was the Moke, so as a cost cutting measure, the Air Pump was deleted. These found their way in to Mokes from very late in 1979 after earlier stocks were used up.
