Thanks guys for your input.

@Steve220 can you expand on what you mean by there are options to map the mems a bit, do you mean just by simply tuning?

The rom chip gets placed with a programmable ones, but its still limited by the size of the injectors

Have you done this Steve? If so who did this for you, I assume then off to a rolling road for mapping/tuning.

Many thanks Cooperman, I will start saving for this and gearbox rebuild and look for someone reputable to carryout the work as I am a total novice and void of this skill set!

I don't want to alarm you, but as a "total novice", how are you going to know that you don't "NEED" a reground crank and bearings, a rebore and pistons, valves and guides, cam and followers, etc:,  all because you think that, like a timing belt, a timing chain might need replacing.

When my brother's B reg 998 Cooper had done 101.000 miles, I fitted .002" main bearings and Cord piston rings and it did another 44,000 miles.  He only parked it in the nettles because he bought himself a Gilbern estate.

As a total novice I won't know whether I need any of that or not. That's why I would look for suggestions towards a recommendation for someone to carryout the work for me.
With regard to the timing chain I asked the question because the Haynes manual suggests changing at 60,000
