I’m replacing this complete assembly due to corrosion … can anyone enlighten me on which direction the fuel flows?

Fantastic, thank you. So effectively it flows forwards towards the engine … easy to remember :)

The rubber hose in your picture bends back on itself and attaches to the steel fuel line that goes under the floor and into the engine bay. You can replace all the hard lines shown in your picture with rubber fuel hose and a standard filter.

...by standard filter I mean a generic one that shares the same diameter as the OE one so that it fits into the bracket snugly

If your replacing things such as the filter make sure your rubber hoses accept the new e5 fuel. They have additives in there which do not mix with the older rubber hoses...

Last thing you want to do,is to have to change these roadside in a month after building..

Going back to my original photo, I have a decent spare pair of the hooked solid fuel lines so I plan to use those with any connecting pipes in ethanol-proof hose. However .... there's a small o-ring needed at each end of the filter, P/N EDP9976, what would my options be to ensure these are ethanol-proof as well? I assume the o/e Rover o-rings won't be.

Quick update … ethanol resistant o-rings are available from Simply Bearings: Viton 2.5mm x 7.5mm ID.

All refitted and ethanol proof:
